Artist Spotlight: Rachel Barton Pine on Corelli

The Pacifica Quartet presents The Korngold Collection, a landmark recording of Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s complete string quartets and rarely heard chamber works tracing the composer’s extraordinary evolution from prodigy of post-imperial Vienna to pioneering film composer in Hollywood

25-year-old rising American violinist Karisa Chiu and renowned Chinese pianist Zhu Wang unite for Chiu’s debut album, HOME. Influenced by her Chicago upbringing, pandemic discoveries, and Korean and Chinese family roots, the recording reflects on the various interpretations of “home” in Chiu’s life, with works by Jean Sibelius, Claude Debussy, Augusta Read Thomas, Cyril Scott, and Gabriel Fauré.

In honor of this month’s (Nov. 14) release of the Pacifica Quartet’s The Korngold Collection, an update of our 2019 playlist of music by composers who were displaced or killed in WW2 and the Holocaust, to which we’ll add tracks from the new album when it becomes available on streaming.
