Black Composers on Cedille
Originally launched in honor of African-American Music Month in 2017 (and frequently updated since then), our Black Composers playlist highlights some of the many works by African-descended composers that permeate the Cedille Records catalog.
Haymarket Opera, Chicago’s premier early opera company that presents historically informed performances played on 18th-century classical era instruments, performs on this world-premiere recording of L’Amant Anonyme (The Anonymous Lover) by Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges (1745–1799).
In honor of this month’s world premiere recording of “L’Amant Anonyme,” a 1780 opera by Afro-French composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, an exploration of music by less-known Classical period composers, including many women. We’ll add tracks form the opera when it’s released on 2/10.
