Artist-Driven Albums Champion Diverse Musicians

Because the music we record is proposed by the artists themselves and is formed from their interests and artistic visions, Cedille’s recordings are comprised of (often new) personally meaningful, and inspiring repertoire.
At any given time, Cedille is working on dozens of recording projects. The creation of a Cedille album, from proposal to release and promotion, takes well over a year of sustained attention.
Among the living composers whose work Cedille has featured since 2020, nearly 50% are from diverse backgrounds and 40% are women. Additionally, over the same period, 70% of Cedille’s albums have featured women performers. Cedille is honored to uplift voices that have been traditionally underrepresented in classical music.
In addition to his work on movies including Get Out, Us, and Chevalier, celebrated African-American composer Michael Abels’s work has been featured on several Cedille recordings. Cedille Records and the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras comissioned Michael Abels to write Winged Creatures for flutist Demarre McGill and clarinetist Anthony McGill. (The three of them are shown in the photo above.) He says:
Cedille Records has for decades documented and championed the composers of today, the performers of today, the music of today. Cedille… was the first label to record and release my music long before Hollywood took notice. The passion and commitment of Cedille has been a blessing to me and to all the composers they have championed.
We’re proud that our recordings have helped cement the legacy of diverse artists through recordings. Your gifts, now and in the future, will further these efforts for current artists and composers, and those to come. Please consider donating monthly to help support the work of Cedille’s artists throughout the entire recording and production process.
