New Single Release: Derivative
A composition by Jlin performed by Grammy Award-winning ensemble Third Coast Percussion
Initially associated with Chicago’s footwork scene, Jlin’s music has evolved far beyond that style, exploring unheard rhythms and placing her in a category of her own. “Derivative” is one of a set of seven pieces (entitled “Perspective”) to be performed live by GRAMMY® Award-winning ensemble Third Coast Percussion. The performers brought together a motley collection of percussion instruments and other objects, including bowls of water, mechanical spring coils, and childrens’ squeaky toys to bring the composer’s extraordinary electronic sound palette into the physical realm.

25-year-old rising American violinist Karisa Chiu and renowned Chinese pianist Zhu Wang unite for Chiu’s debut album, HOME. Influenced by her Chicago upbringing, pandemic discoveries, and Korean and Chinese family roots, the recording reflects on the various interpretations of “home” in Chiu’s life, with works by Jean Sibelius, Claude Debussy, Augusta Read Thomas, Cyril Scott, and Gabriel Fauré.

In celebration of violinist Karisa Chiu‘s recording debut titled HOME (9/12/25 release) a playlist of first featured appearances on Cedille by Chicago solo performers, ensembles, and conductors (presented in order of release from newest to oldest). We’ll add tracks from HOME on its release day.
