Congratulations to Oliver Talukder, Cedille’s Newest “Emerging Artist”

To say it’s been a big year for oboist Oliver Talukder would be an understatement. In May, he won Cedille’s second Emerging Artist Competition, sponsored by the Zell Family Foundation. He wowed the audience at the finals with, among other things, his brilliant arrangement of Arturo Marquez’s Danzón No. 2, in which he seamlessly transitioned between oboe, English horn, piccolo, and flute.

On July 1, Musical America declared Oliver its “New Artist of the Month,” a prestigious recognition that helped elevate his profile on a national scale. Cedille is honored to add Oliver to our roster of the more than 80 musicians and ensembles who have released their professional debut recording on Cedille Records. Oliver has shared:

The day after his captivating performance at Soirée Cedille on September 28, Oliver was back at work — this time recording with pianist Moriah Trenk, capturing the artistry that earned him the top prize in Cedille’s competition. His upcoming album — Oliver’s prize for winning — will elevate Oliver’s artistry to international audiences.

A product of Chicago’s vibrant music scene, Oliver’s musical foundation was laid during his time in the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestras, People’s Music School, and Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative. With his ability to perform fluently on multiple woodwind instruments, Oliver brings both technical versatility and expressive depth to his music. His engaging stage presence and warmth have quickly made him a favorite among audiences and collaborators alike.
